If you’re like me, you might every once in a while (ok, quite often) crave for a really good specialty coffee after a nice lunch. Here are some of the places I like to go to when I have such a craving:

La Torrefazione

La Torrefazione at Aleksanterinkatu 50 is one of my favourite lunch places. They serve great pastas and salads, and sometimes there’s a really good risotto on the menu as well. La Torre is also a great place for a breakfast or brunch, and they are quite serious (without being serious at all) about great coffee. The place is cozy and noisy and often packed at lunch time, and there are great views on Aleksanterinkatu.

If there’s risotto on the menu, that’s my no 1 choice.

The pastas are good, too!

Fratello Torrefazione

Fratello is La Torrefazione‚Äôs ‚Äúhipster little brother‚ÄĚ at Kluuvi near the¬†university. They also serve salads, pastas and risottos, with more twist¬†than the big brother, perhaps, but the flavours are still good. The coffee¬†is as good as at Torre, plus you can have a gelato with it!

Cargo at Mikonkatu

I like to have salads as lunch, so I was quite happy to hear there’s Cargo at the centre of Helsinki as well. The salads are ready packed, so you can just as easily take it with you as eat it at the café, which is located in the back of TRE lifestyle store at Mikonkatu. It’s so much fun eyeing all the stuff at the shop while having lunch and great coffee.

El Fant

I love this pretty little café and winebar El Fant that also serves as the city museum café. The serene atmosphere is present even when the place is packed, thanks to the calm and minimalist interior, or maybe it’s just me enjoying my whole visit as an experience rather than just having a meal. Everything they serve is made in their own kitchen, the food is fresh and healthy, and they prefer organic, local and vegetarian food. On top of this, Finnish Barista Champion 2016 works here, so make no mistake, the coffee is good.

Patisserie Teemu & Markus

As much as I love El Fant, Patisserie Teemu & Markus might still be my favourite caf√© in¬†Helsinki. Everything I‚Äôve had here has tasted good, from the pastries to¬†the soups, breads and of course coffee. They serve soup lunch with freshly¬†baked bread that you can also buy from the shelf to go. See if you can¬†resist the temptation to buy something sweet to go with your coffee¬†‚ėļ
